WHAT IS SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY?
I work with individuals and couples using relational and somatic (body-oriented) modalities. I believe that an empathetic understanding of one’s unique worldview -- and how a person arrives at that view—is essential to unlocking the behavioral, emotional, and thought patterns which can be derailing.
My training in holistic counseling psychology includes Psycho-Physical Therapy, Hakomi, and Formative Psychology at the Center for Energetic Studies in addition to a focus on the work of Carl Rogers (relational therapy) and Sue Johnson (Emotionally Focused Therapy). Though it rarely comes up in individual or couples work, I hold client experience in the context of Ecopsychology (the self as part of the biosphere), and offer a group and workshop based on processing our role in climate and species loss—and what we can do about it—and to facilitate grieving the impacts of climate change. I consider the biosphere and the personal body as interrelated.
